Premium rate telephone numbers or call centres
Some time ago we started the topic of premium rate telephone numbers on our blog. Since that time, lots of people have been emailing us, sharing their opinions and personal stories. We really appreciate that. Thanks for all the emails! Unfortunately, we will not be able to answer them all, but we can tell now that some of you share similar observations, so we might at least talk about that! For example, quite a lot of you have told us that you have problems distinguishing regular phone numbers from premium rate phone numbers. That shouldn"t be a problem in a civilized country, but as we can see, the law is not observed very well! Some companies do not inform their potential customers how much their services really cost, or at least do not convey the message in a clear way. A few days ago, a young woman emailed me to share a story. She wanted to call the manufacturer of her laptop in order to get some help. She found the number of the call centre on the internet. Unfortunately, she didn"t read the small print at the bottom of the page. IN fact, it was not a call centre number at all! It was one of those premium rate phone numbers. She finally paid double: for the service itself and for calling a premium rate number.
